Medical Assistant

Program Overview:
The Medical Assistant program will provide students with both the administrative and clinical skills vital to function in today’s ever-changing healthcare industry. Special skills such as EKG technology and phlebotomy are included along with the basics of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, medical law and ethics, pharmacology, and collection of a variety of laboratory specimens. Students will learn to record vital signs, culture wounds, remove sutures, administer injections and perform patient education under the supervision of licensed healthcare providers. The Medical Assisting student will learn to document with precision and accuracy while providing complex patient services to a wide variety of patients including pediatric, adult and geriatric populations. Additional courses include workplace communications, and Microsoft office. This program will also include an externship clinical experience in a health care setting for the student to apply the training they have obtained.

Objective:
The completion of the Medical Assistant certificate program is designed for the student to gain the level of mastery of hands on skills to become part of the healthcare industry. Along with understanding their role on the health care team, Medical Assistants will demonstrate the complex ability to provide direct care as well as education to patients regarding their overall health. Certified Medical Assistant graduates will be prepared for an entry-level employment position in a variety of careers in the public and private health care sectors including hospitals, physicians’ offices, urgent care clinics, and laboratories.
